Gout Prevention Tips
The best way to treat
anything is to stop it from occurring in the first place. And
the same is true for gout. In this article we'll talk about
ways to go about gout prevention and stop the likelihood that
it will occur.
In order to understand gout prevention you first have to
understand what causes gout. Gout is caused by having excess
uric acid in your bloodstream. If you have too much uric acid
in your system your body will not be able to get rid of it
efficiently. What happens is the excess uric acid is deposited
into your joints, where it then forms into crystals.
These crystals will cause sharp pains when your joints move
and row against them. In addition, they will cause swelling
which will make your skin tender to even the slightest touch.
Therefore, it causes pain both when you move and when the area
infected with gout is touched. It's also a form of
arthritis.
There are generally two reasons why you would have too much
uric acid in your system. The first has to do with your diet.
Foods that are high in purine are the main culprit. Purine is
what is converted into uric acid. If you are eating foods that
are rich with purine, this could be one of the main causes of
your gout.
The second reason is that your body is improperly getting
rid of the uric acid. This could be because your body is
dehydrated and therefore is not able to get rid of waste
through urine like a healthy body would. Or, there is some
other health problem which is causing your body not to properly
get rid of uric acid.
The best way for gout prevention is to eat a well-balanced
diet that does not contain too much purine. The main sources of
purine are red and dark meat, and alcohol. Additionally, foods
that are rich in protein are also likely to be rich in purine
since all proteins have some purine in them.
Other foods to watch out for are seafood's, sardines,
anchovies and any food with high amounts of yeast.
Additionally, there are ways to help your body increase the
output of uric acid. The best way to do this is to increase the
ingestion of vitamin C. However, if you're going to take high
doses of vitamin C it is best to do so under a doctor's
supervision because there have been a small group of people
whose gout symptoms of actually gotten worse with high levels
of vitamin C.
There you have it - an effective way to gout prevention.
